The Spiritual Anatomy of Emotion

Author Interview for WUNC Radio's The State of Things
September 11 2009 by Frank Stasio and Katy Barron

Summary: Author Michael Jawer spent much of his professional career researching indoor air quality and Sick Building Syndrome. Along the way he met building occupants who seemed more sensitive than most to the sights, sounds and smells of the office. It turns out, many of them also experienced things that can only be described as paranormal. Jawer decided to investigate the link on his own. The result is his new book, “The Spiritual Anatomy of Emotion: How Feelings Link the Brain, the Body and the Sixth Sense” (Park Street Press/2009). Jawer joins host Frank Stasio to discuss the brain/body interactions that might help explain anomalous perceptions.

Say Goodbye to Mosquitoes the Natural Way

A Summer Tip for Environmentally Sensitive Skin

Let’s face it, the only thing worse than getting bitten by mosquitoes is putting on bug spray that doesn't feel that safe to your health.

I recently discovered a great natural alternative that works well: Tiger Balm.

Tiger Balm, found in drugstores near the muscle relaxers, works great for arthritis and rheumatism, muscle and joint pains, neck and back pain, tired feet, sprains, massages, and a warm up rub prior to exercising. But now another claim can be added to that list. This natural blend of essential oils like camphor, menthol, and clove bud oil keep the mosquitoes away in a similar way to citronella candles.

How to use it:
Tiger Balm comes in a tiny package, but you'll be amazed by how long it lasts. A little goes a very long way. Dabbing it on your ankles, wrists, neck, and inner elbows before going outside should keep mosquitoes away from your entire body. And it stops the itching from bites you may already have, too!

If you don't have Tiger Balm on hand, other menthol/camphor rubs and ointments like Vick's VapoRub and Watkins Menthol Camphor Ointment will work just as well.
